Common questions
When We Can Come
How do I book?
Ring (02) 9073 7836 and you're straight through to a local, not a queue at a call centre. We'll ask what's happening, give you a realistic idea of timing, and lock in a booking that suits your day. Prefer typing it out? The contact form reaches the same team, and we'll call you back to confirm.
What happens after I call?
We'll run through what's going on over the phone, then book a licensed electrician in for a time that suits you. On the day, they explain what they're seeing in plain English and put the price in writing before anything gets switched off. You only ever pay what's on that quote.
How fast can you get here?
It depends on the job and what else is booked that day, but standard work is often same or next day. Genuine electrical emergencies get priority, and we'll tell you honestly where you sit in the queue rather than promise a time we can't keep.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Sparking outlets, a burning smell from the switchboard, exposed wiring, a total power loss with no obvious street-wide cause, or a shock from any appliance or point. If it's safe to reach, switch the circuit off at the board, then call us. We treat these as priority, day or night.
Common questions
Pricing, Straight Up
How do quotes work?
We look at the job, either over the phone or on site, and give you a fixed written price before anything starts. That price covers labour, parts and the paperwork, so nothing extra turns up on the invoice later. The price we quote is the price you pay, every time.
How do I pay?
You pay once the work is finished and you're happy with it, against the price we agreed before we started. We take the usual electronic payment methods, and every invoice matches the quote you signed off on. No surprises on the invoice, ever.
Is the quote really free?
Yes. A quote costs nothing, whether it's over the phone for a simple job or on site for something bigger, and there's no call-out fee just to have a look. You only pay once you've accepted a price and asked us to go ahead.
Do prices change once you start?
Not for the work we quoted. If we open something up and find extra work that genuinely wasn't visible beforehand, like wiring hidden behind an old fuse board, we stop, walk you through it, and settle on a new price before going any further. You're never billed for a surprise.
Common questions
Working in and Around Fairlight
Why do Fairlight's older homes need switchboard upgrades?
A lot of Fairlight's Federation and inter-war houses still run their original ceramic fuse switchboards, not modern circuit breakers. Those old boards weren't built for the appliance load a household carries today, so a fault means fiddling with fuse wire in the dark instead of flicking a breaker back on. We upgrade them to a safety switch on every circuit.
Do you work on heritage/strata properties?
Regularly. Fairlight runs from double-brick homes near Manly Golf Club to newer strata blocks going up around Sydney Road, and we're used to both. Heritage places need a careful hand with drilling and cable runs so the character features stay intact, while strata jobs need paperwork the owners corporation can file. We handle either.
Can you handle new builds and renovations here?
Yes, and it's a good share of our work in Fairlight. Winter storms off the harbour are quick to trip an ageing board, so plenty of renovations here start with the switchboard brought up to modern safety-switch standard before the rest of the job goes ahead. New builds get the same standard from day one.
Do you know Fairlight's housing stock?
Yes, it's a genuine mix, older houses on the slopes above the harbour built across the Federation and inter-war years, double-brick semis, and newer mid-rise units closer to Sydney Road and the foreshore. That variety means the jobs vary too, from a full rewire in a period home to a straightforward switchboard swap in a unit.
Common questions
The Legal Stuff, Made Simple
What brands do you install?
Clipsal and Hager switchgear, SAL and Beacon Lighting fittings, premium gear rather than cheap imports that fail early. Sticking to recognised brands also means parts and support are easy to find years down the track if something ever needs attention.
Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?
No. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW for anything beyond very minor tasks like changing a light globe, and for good reason. Faulty DIY wiring is a genuine fire and shock risk, and any switchboard or circuit work needs a licensed electrician to test it and sign off with a proper certificate.
What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?
Yes. It's the certificate of compliance for electrical work, paperwork lodged with NSW Fair Trading confirming notifiable work meets AS/NZS 3000. We test the work before we sign off, and you get a copy for your records, useful for insurance, sale or council purposes later.
What is AS/NZS 3000?
It's the Australian wiring standard every electrician has to work to, covering how circuits, switchboards and safety switches get installed so a home is safe, not just functional. When we say a job is compliant, this is the rulebook we're compliant with.
